Fontenelle Forest Field Trip!
We took a trip to the local forest as a way of wrapping up our Science Unit on Food Webs and Chains.
Dissecting an owl pellet!
The students worked in groups to dissect the 'mystery pellets.' The mystery pellet is all the stuff that an owl can not digest after eating a rodent. So the students found things like bones, including a skull, fur, and some sticks. They loved this activity! And don't worry the pellets were sterilized before the kids touched them...plus we washed and sanitized our hands! :)
Social Studies: Map Skills
We studied maps for our first Social Studies E.O. The students created compass roses in many ways.
Jumbo Punctuation!
We have been studying commands, statements, and exclamations. The students created jumbo punctuation marks to help them remember to add the correct punctuation to their sentences. The jumbo punctuation marks are on display in the Third grade hallways and in our classroom.
Bucket Fillers
The idea of Bucket Fillers is to be kind to others or to 'fill their buckets.' When your "bucket" is full you feel good...when you fill others' "buckets" you feel good too. The students each made their own buckets. We try to fill each others buckets often.
